Rebecca Spencer, who premiered the role of Madame Giry to critical acclaim in Phantom-The Las Vegas Spectacular, will don the black dress again when she joins the world tour of The Phantom of the Opera in August in Manila and early 2013 in Seoul, South Korea. Spencer portrayed Madame Giry for more than two years in Sin City.
Producer
Tim McFarlane, managing director of The Really Useful Company Asia Pacific, said, in announcing the Manila and Seoul engagements, "This touring production of The Phantom of the Opera is as fine as any version you might see on the West End or Broadway—it is the same superb design, and we invest a great deal to ensure it is of the highest standards. Our stellar cast assembles the industry’s best performers, with members coming from the UK, USA, Australia and South Africa to join forces."
Spencer is an accomplished actress whose diverse work has been seen on Broadway, Off-Broadway, regionally and internationally in principal roles ranging from Cunegonde in Bernstein’s Candide to Dolly Levi in
Jerry Herman’s Hello Dolly. She is an original Broadway Cast member of Jekyll and Hyde, and created the role of Emma Carew in the World Premiere staging at the
Alley Theatre, opposite
Linda Eder and
Chuck Wagner. She starred as Carlotta in
Hal Prince’s Hamburg, Germany company of The Phantom of the Opera and can be heard on several original Broadway cast albums.
Rebecca’s solo concert career has been a very busy one over the past few years. Her Las Vegas debut was Las Vegas Magazine’s #1 Pick of the Month, and earned a Las Vegas City Life 'DIVA' preview pick of the week. She was featured on the cover of the Las Vegas Review Journal’s Neon Magazine and in their popular IMAGE fashion section. She has appeared in concert with her pianist and Musical Director
Philip Fortenberry across the country, from the Panache Jazz Series at the Blue Heron Art Center on Vashon Island, WA to Manhattan’s venerable jazz club, Birdland, in the Broadway at Birdland series. Her two solo recordings are Wide Awake and Dreaming, which earned the Back Stage Bistro Award for Outstanding Achievement in a Recording and Fair Warning, a collection of arrangements honoring the ladies of the Red Hat Society. Both recordings are distributed by Allegro Music on the LML Music label.
The Manila engagement is a strictly limited run from August 25 to October 14 at the CCP Main Theater. Tickets went on sale on May 1, 2012. For further information, visit Spencer’s website at www.rebeccaspencer.com.
