Manila, Philippines--Claude Michel-Schönberg and Alain Boublil's musical adaptation of Victor Hugo's classic novel LES MISERABLES (LES MIS) opens at The Theatre at Solaire (Solaire Resort and Casino, Paranaque City) on Friday, March. 11, and even more exciting news, the show has announced an extension until Sunday, April 24, giving it an incredible six-week run in Manila prior to its limited engagement in Singapore.
This reimagined production of LES MIS has been praised by critics, fans, and new audiences, breaking box office records internationally, and inspiring filmmakers to make the outstandingly successful movie adaptation, which went on to win three Oscars, three Golden Globes, four BAFTAs, and five Helpmann Awards. It has also won more than 125 major awards around the world.
One of the world's greatest musicals, LES MIS's new production, presented by Smart Infinity, features glorious modernized staging, orchestrations, and dazzling reimaging scenery inspired by the paintings by Mr Hugo. Its international cast, which includes Helpmann Award winner Simon Gleeson, Earl Carpenter, and Rachelle Ann Go continue to rehearse in Manila ahead of their first performance this Friday.
Set against the backdrop of the 19th-century revolutionary France, LES MIS has been seen by over 70 million people worldwide in 42 countries and in 22 languages. It tells the epic and uplifting story about the survival of the human spirit, which boasts a magnificent score including "I Dreamed A Dream," "On My Own," "Stars," "Bring Him Home," "Do You Hear the People Sing?" "One Day More," "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables," and "Master of the House."
LES MIS, produced by Cameron Mackintosh, has music by Messrs Schönberg and Boublil, lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer and original French text by Mr Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel. Adapted by Trevor Nunn and John Caird, it has additional material by James Fenton. The reimagined production is directed by Laurence Connor and James Powell and designed by Matt Kinley. Original costumes by Andreane Neofitou, additional costumes by Christine Rowland, lighting design by Paule Constable, and sound design by Mick Potter. Michael Cassel is the executive producer of the Asian tour/international production.
