Manila, Philippines, June 22, 2013--Visiting Broadway actor Dan Domenech ("Rock of Ages," "Glee") suffered minor injuries, including bruises to his left hand, during last night's (June 21) performance of Disney's Broadway musical "Tarzan" at Meralco Theater.

Domenech has been playing the role of Tarzan since Viva Atlantis Theatricals, the show's producer, officially opened the musical--its Asian premiere--Friday, June 14.

"Dan got hurt today. They [production staff] sent him to the [nearest] hospital to have his hand checked," said Toni Bufete, an avid theatergoer who works at the Department of Health. "I hope he's OK," she added.

BroadwayWorld.com (BWW) immediately contacted Domenech when the actor posted the photo, which BWW used in this article, on his Facebook timeline. He said, "I landed on my hand wrong during the leopard fight scene [his second scene in the musical]. I finished the show last night. I'm all good, just bruised up."

Based on the novel "Tarzan of the Apes" by Edgar Rice Burroughs, which inspired the 1999 Disney animated film, "Disney's Tarzan" tells the story of a newborn boy who gets stranded in the African wilderness, where the infant grows up in the company of apes. He later discovers civilization when he meets Jane (played by pop star Rachelle Ann Go), a daughter of an English explorer.

Domenech's portrayal of Tarzan has been reaping rave reviews:

"Broadway-trained Domenech shines through in all of his scenes in the musical. He sings Phil Collins' songs in ravishing, powerful tenor. Despite the demands of his character--the swinging on ropes and seemingly endless jumping--he displays a commanding presence onstage with his brand of musicality and charismatic stage presence," wrote Jude Cartalaba (BWW).

According to Pia Ranada (Rappler.com), "...his Broadway experience has surely helped the tall and tan Domenech to warm up to his part (including swinging around half-naked in front of hundreds of people). His Tarzan is someone you will really root for and trust unconditionally."

Domenech is expected to resume playing Tarzan today.

The musical runs until Saturday, June 29.
