"She's coming back in a big way. We're finishing the year with her. She's coming back for five episodes at the end of the year. She's gonna be great," says GLEE creator Ryan Murphy when interviewed by ABS-CBN North America News Bureau at the recently concluded 2011 Golden Globe Awards.
Millions of Filipinos around the world were tuned in to the pint sized singer's debut on the hit American television show's season two opener that introduced Charice as Sunshine Corazon -- a stereotypically nerdy international exchange student from the Philippines, who openly rejected glee club coach Will Schuester's invitation to join the New Directions for another singing group the Vocal Adrenaline.
In that episode Charice had a vocal face off ("Telephone" by Lady Gaga featuring Beyonce Knowles) with the show's main star Lea Michele, who's playing the role of the singing club's resident diva Rachel Berry. Charice, in that same episode, brought the house down with her unique rendition of "Listen" from the movie adaptation of the Broadway musical "Dreamgirls".
However, Charice's fast-growing Filipino fan base had been left in the dark as to when Charice would finally return to the show until Murphy's recent television interview.
It seems we have to count several more months to see Charice back on GLEE.
Outside Hollywood, Charice studies Communication at a Massachusetts-based online university.
Born and raised in the Philippines, Charice began vocal lessons at the age of four and started to compete in local amateur singing contests, and singing competitions on Philippine television three years later. In 2007, videos of Charice's performances on YouTube started to attract the attention of American television show producers, which led to appearances on "Ellen" and "Oprah".
Charice's self-titled international debut album, produced by star maker David Foster, landed Top 8 on Billboard 200.
Her carrier single "Pyramid", a collaboration between her and R&B artist Iyaz, topped the Billboard dance club chart.
She's currently based in the United States, and recently visited Manila to perform alongside Original Pilipino Music (OPM) legend Gary Valenciano at the SM Mall of Asia (MOA) concert grounds.
