Bituin Escalante Joins the Cast of WAITRESS; Show Premieres 11/10 ImageManila, Philippines--Atlantis Theatrical Entertainment Group has announced that veteran stage-concert performer Bituin Escalante (DREAMGIRLS, HIMALA) will be joining the cast of the hit Broadway musical WAITRESS when the show--its first international production--premieres in Manila at Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, Makati City, on November 10, 2018.

With music and lyrics by Grammy nominee Sara Bareilles, and based on the 2007 movie of the same name, WAITRESS tells the story of an expert baker named Jenna who is disillusioned with her life and reckons with herself through the simple magic of baking. Accompanied by her friends Dawn and Becky (Escalante), Jenna finds the strength and courage to rebuild her own life.

Escalante is best known for her hit song "Kung Ako Nalang Sana" for which she received a platinum award in 2002. Besides her undeniable influence in OPM, she has also made rounds in the theater scene since 1999. She was part of the Manila cast of the first staging of RENT where she brought the house down nightly as the "Seasons of Love "soloist and went on to play Joanne in the repeat run. She also made waves as Effie White in the Tony-winning musical DREAMGIRLS.

She has also starred in numerous award-winning shows such as TICK, TICK...BOOM! as Susan/Karessa, ONCE ON THIS ISLAND as Asaka, and Columbia in THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW, to name a few. Bituin has become a formidable presence in the Philippine musical theater landscape. Her recent performance as Aling Saling in "Himala: The Musical" has earned her tremendous critical acclaim.

WAITRESS will be directed by Atlantis Theatrical's founding artistic director Bobby Garcia who directed Bituin in RENT and DREAMGIRLS. Garcia says, "I am beyond thrilled to have Bituin back on our stage in a musical as precious as WAITRESS. I think she will be an unforgettable Becky and I can't wait for the work to begin."

"WAITRESS is a little slice of heaven!" says Entertainment Weekly and "a monumental contribution to Broadway!" according to Marie Claire.

Don't miss this uplifting musical celebrating friendship, motherhood, and the magic of a well-made pie.
