Manila, Philippines--Another theatrical gem is in the making as Triumphant People's Evangelistic Theater Society (Trumpets) opens its curtains to THE HORSE AND HIS BOY, a stage adaptation of C.S. Lewis's children's classic book.

THE HORSE AND HIS BOY tells the story of an orphan boy Shasta who meets a talking horse Bree; together, they journey towards freedom from slavery and oppression.

The play, contrary to Trumpets' previous musical adaptation of "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe," another C.S. Lewis's classic work, is not a full-blown musical, but it also has a share of beautiful melodies to accompany its great story. The script is written not only for young audiences but for adult audiences as well. It speaks volumes about the world of Narnia, which are nostalgic to different generations.

The play's lasting brilliance is founded in its ability to connect with its audiences through the use of a narrator who is also part of the story. Though common in theater, the narrator gives the audiences an easier time to understand the story and its important elements.

The actors' portrayals are also commendable most especially the animal characters, which give the play its lasting mark, together with its vibrant choreography and shadow puppetry. The play is kid-friendly, but it also strikes the very core of the viewer's emotions. It's as if you're part of the story, which is a commonplace among all "Narnia" books. Its beautiful ornate set design, which is a mixture of Middle Eastern, Oriental, and Western influences, adds to the grandeur of the production.

THE HORSE AND HIS BOY is a real treat for families who are on the lookout for alternative ways for their children to learn lessons in life and moral values while enjoying live theater. For the fans of C.S. Lewis, this production will bring you back to Narnia and will guarantee an "epic ride" at the theatre.

Written for the stage by Luna Griño-Inocian and directed by Jaime del Mundo, THE HORSE AND HIS BOY is a celebration of Trumpets' decades-long commitment in producing wholesome and exciting original theatrical productions.

THE HORSE AND HIS BOY will run through Sunday, November 22, at Meralco Theatre.
