BLUE MAN GROUP is not your average stage show. It's a strange, comical, and surreal experience. How does one describe the indescribable? It's not a musical, it's not a play... it's an experience. While performance art comes closest to categorizing the show, what an audience experiences is really a unique communal party. - BroadwayWorld.com
My younger cousin in California, who's not your typical theatergoer, loved the music, the experience when he saw BLUE MAN GROUP, which is not your typical Off-Broadway musical. That has certainly piqued my interest in the show; unfortunately, I haven't gotten the chance to see it for myself yet.
It's never too late: Besides its open-ended engagements in New York City, Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas, and at the Universal Orlando Resort, BLUE MAN GROUP, which is about to reach a new milestone: its 25th anniversary, is also embarking on a new world tour. The tour kicks off in Singapore at the MasterCard Theatres at the Marina Bay Sands this weekend; tours across key cities in New Zealand this mid-year, and makes its Philippine debut on September 14 at The Theatre at Solaire, currently home of the hit musical "Les Miserables."
Blue Man Productions Ltd, Lunchbox Theatrical Productions Ltd, and Concertus Manila are bringing BLUE MAN GROUP to Manila.
"I have been trying to get this cooler-than-cool show to Singapore and Manila since I first saw it years ago, and I am so excited that we have finally succeeded! BLUE MAN GROUP is hugely popular around the world. First-time audiences leave the theatre so exhilarated by the show that it has one of the highest return businesses of any theatrical event. I know it will be the talk of Singapore and Manila and around the Southeast Asia region when audiences finally get to experience this innovative, playful, and colorful spectacle," said James Cundall, producer and CEO of Lunchbox Theatrical Productions.
The 1991 Obie Award winner BLUE MAN GROUP, best known for its trio of bald and literally blue performance artists, is comedy, theater, rock concert, and dance party all rolled into one. Born of the creative urge to explore the unknown by its creators, Chris Wink, Matt Goldman, and Phil Stanton, the show is a combination of science, comedy, music, and vibrant visual effects. The show provides audiences with a fully immersive audiovisual experience complete with electrifying music, sensational technology, a captivating live band, and its signature interactive audience experiences. To date, the show has been seen by over 35 million people across 15 countries.
Infinite curiosity and innovation are the essentials to the show's formula for success through the years. "We live in a fast-paced, ever-evolving world. The Blue Man [which refers to being 'Human'] character is a curious being who explores our cultural norms, our everyday objects, but he sees them with fresh eyes and an innocent perspective. As the world around us changes, we are constantly inspired to create new scenarios for the Blue Man to explore," said Mr. Stanton, co-founder of BLUE MAN GROUP.
"Plus, we really like to keep things fresh and vibrant. For almost 25 years, although the content of the show varies, the mission of every Blue Man Group show has remained the same--to bring the collective audience together with the Blue Men for a euphoric celebration, a heightened state of being alive," added Mr. Wink, co-founder.
Beyond its stage performances, BLUE MAN GROUP has previously toured the world via its rock concert parody, "Megastar World Tour." It has also produced numerous albums, which include the Grammy Award-nominated "Audio" and its upcoming album, "Three."
