The SpongeBob Musical, a vibrant and wacky stage adaptation of the beloved cartoon, is a collaborative effort by a talented team. The energetic music and lyrics were composed by a team of artists including Cyndi Lauper, Brian Eno, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, David Bowie (with his final recorded song), and They Might Be Giants. The book, or script, was crafted by Kyle J. Friedman, weaving the story of Bikini Bottom into a full-fledged musical. The musical debuted on Broadway in 2017.
The story follows the cheerful and optimistic SpongeBob SquarePants and his wacky friends in the underwater city of Bikini Bottom. When a grumpy volcano threatens their world, SpongeBob must embark on a heroic quest to save his home. Filled with catchy songs and outlandish humor that stays true to the cartoon's spirit, the musical is a joyous celebration of friendship, optimism, and the power of community.
The SpongeBob Musical's energetic music, wacky characters, and positive message have made it a favorite among audiences of all ages.
