The show will run for nine weekend performances between Nov. 11 and Nov.20 at the Players Club of Swarthmore, 614 Fairview Ave. in Swarthmore. Buy tickets on line at www.pcstheater.org . Directed by Sara Anne Rabatin (Philadelphia), this play is based on th watershed 1962 publication of The Snowy Day, by Ezra Jack Keats in which the joy in the small moments of a child's world, like the wonder of a fresh snowfall or the delight of whistling for the first time, or te awe in finding a special treasure, comes to life. It was this beautifully illustrated picture book that introduced an African American child as the protagonist for the first time in Children's literature, and it was universally embraced, making The Snowy Day a beloved American classic that has been acclaimed by the Library of Congress as a “book that shaped America.” Keats wrote and illustrated over 20 children's books. His best-known characters are a diverse group of friends in an inner-city neighborhood—which was a prototype for Sesame Street! He is considered a pioneer in American children’s literature for his realistic, multicultural portrayal of childhood. Keats wanted no child to be an outsider: “If we could see each other exactly as the other is,” he wrote, “this would be a different world." The cast includes Sabrina Boyd-Surka (Philadelphia) as Peter, Sharon Kolankiewicz (Wallingford), making her PCS debut as the Female player, and Kate Scanlon (Media) and Kat Lemon (Swarthmore) as Players 1 and 2.
