The Emerging Playwrights Program (EPP) is a playwright development program. For the past eight months, each playwright in the cohort worked with Resident Dramaturg, Chaz T. Martin, to develop a full-length play. More than just a workshop, the cohort also benefited from career development "guest classes" with Philly artistic directors, literary managers, and other theater professionals, programmed by Strides Associate Artistic Director, Gauri Mangala.
The program culminates in this live, in-person reading of 20-minute selections from the cohort’s full-length, yet-unproduced plays. This year's 2nd Annual Reading Night will feature the works of our four cohort members of the 2023 season:
Andrew Beal [he/him] - The Launch, or What Is Znord
Xavier Clark [he/him] - supper.
Dom Martello [they/them] - But I'll Die Trying
Sarah Stryker [she/they] - Making It
Run time: Approximately 90-100 minutes with no intermission.
Location: The Louis Bluver Theatre at the Drake, 302 S Hicks Street, Philadelphia, PA 19102. Accessibility note: The Bluver is an accessible space for patrons in wheelchairs or with limited mobility. Seating is general admission and flexible as needed to accommodate space for mobility devices.
