The action centers on an ambitious African- American book editor, Shelita Burns, whose publication of the memoirs of an elderly Southern black woman causes a sensation. When Shelita makes a trip to greet her author in person, she discovers that all is by no means as it appears.
Bee-luther-hatchee raises multiple issues of racial identity, the boundaries between art and reality, posing the ultimate question,"Who owns the story of one's life?"
