York Little Theatre, the regions oldest and largest community theatre, is launching a Holiday Card Drive with the request that everyone who has a pleasant memory associated with YLT send the organization a holiday card with $1 enclosed.

"YLT has been serving York County and South Central Pennsylvania for 77 years and countless area residents have wonderful memories of times spent in the audience, on the stage, helping back stage, or taking classes," says Managing Director Julie Aiken, herself a YLT volunteer for more than 40 years.

This year YLT, like many organizations and individuals in this recession, is struggling through difficult financial conditions. The theatre was born in 1933 during the Great Depression when the founders believed in the joy the arts could bring to an otherwise downtrodden community. Since that time, York Little Theatre has survived through many financial hardships due to the dedication, commitment and generosity of the greater community.

"It has taken the effort of thousands of volunteers to build the sets, make the costumes, run props, design the lights, act out the parts and play in the orchestra for YLT productions," said Aiken "If every volunteer, actor, audience member, and theatre class student would remember YLT with just $1 during the holidays, it would be a powerful affirmation of our relevance to the community."

YLT is a nonprofit, 501(c)3 organization and relies on individual contributions and business support for much of its operating budget. "In these trying times, the Board, staff and volunteers would love to hear from everyone whose lives have been touched with a story of what YLT means to you," said Aiken. "We would love your dollar bills and your stories to warm our holidays and help us launch 2010 as our best year ever!"

YLT will share all stories, memories and comments through the runs of Beauty and the Beast (Nov. 6 - 22) and The Nutcracker and the Mouse King (Dec. 11 - 20) in a holiday display in the lobby, where this year, as every year, you will find a beautiful tree donated by Strathmeyer's and decorated by volunteers. Holiday cards may be sent to YLT at 27 S. Belmont Street, York, PA, 17403.

York Little Theatre is a nonprofit community theatre which values and nurtures the irreplaceable role of the arts and is dedicated to engaging and enriching its entire, diverse community in the dramatic arts through a broad range of professionally directed, entertaining, stimulating, and sometimes provocative performances.

York Little Theatre is located at 27 South Belmont Street, York PA at exit 19A of I-83, just south of Market Street. York Little Theatre is a proud member of The Cultural Alliance of York.
