When the Blue Fairy grants Geppetto's wish to bring his beloved puppet to life, the new father quickly learns that being a parent is full of challenges. He struggles to make his son "the perfect boy," only to lose him to a gang of Roustabouts. It is only when faced with the thought of never seeing Pinocchio again that Geppetto truly learns the joys of being a father and loving his child unconditionally.

Wolf Performing Arts Center, a non-profit located in Bryn Mawr, will present Disney's My Son, Pinocchio JR June 7-9 at St. Joseph's University's Bluett Theater. The two-cast production features 62 third through fifth grade students from 22 different schools in the Greater Philadelphia Area.

"At first glance, My Son, Pinocchio, is a tale about a boy who runs away and a father who races to find him," said Director Tess Kunik. "While these moments are certainly a part of the story's action, we find that the show's message is learning to lead with love."

Leading with love is at the heart of every rehearsal for Kunik. Working as a team with professional teaching artists Nikki Battestilli, choreographer, and David Snyder, music director, Kunik has insightfully prepared the actors for life both on and off the stage.

"This story shows us how things go wrong when we try and force others to be what we want them to be. It encourages us to find patience with ourselves and those we love most. Geppetto discovers that 'parents should just let their children grow up to be themselves - whatever they turn out to be,'" said Kunik.
