Freak Dance is described as "amusical comedy with dance numbers and catchy songs that rival the very films it parodies. Adapted by Upright Citizens Brigade co-founder, Matt Besser (Bad Teacher), from the stage show that ran for more than a year at the UCB Theatre, the comedy skips cheap reference humor and goes right for absurdity and outrageous characters (a UCB specialty). This is the story of Cocolonia, a spoiled rich girl who just wants to dance, so she sets out to join the ranks of some local street dancers. Little does she know that this will ultimately involve her in an epic battle of good and evil between two warring dance troupes: think Michael Jackson's 'Bad' video, but with more laughs."
Directed by Besser and Neil Mahoney, and featuring UCB Theatre founders Amy Poehler ("Parks and Recreation"), Matt Walsh (Cyrus), Ian Roberts ("Reno 911!") and Horatio Sanz ("Saturday Night Live"), Freak Dance is sure to become a comedy classic much like the troupe's legendary improv shows and their wickedly wacked-out Comedy Central series. The Upright Citizens Brigade proves again to be one of the most daring and untamed comedy collectives working today, for them, no topic is out of bounds and no dance too freaky. Demand to get your freak on!
