Shakespeare is coming to the park this July and local theatre lovers are welcome to bring picnic blankets and beach chairs as live actors present the Bard's summertime comedy, a love story of dueling wits and daring betrayal. Director Erin Frederick who has previously worked with the Walnut Street Theater and the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire directs the local-area ensemble in this classic comedy by one of the most recognized playwrights in history.

As You Like It follows the merry adventures of Rosalind, a beloved optimist, and her quest for true love amid the schemes of two warring brothers. Theatre Horizon's artistic director, Erin Reilly says she is "looking forward to bringing this classic play to life in the outdoors, an atmosphere similar to the Globe Theater used during the time of Shakespeare himself. There is nothing more sublime than rolling out a picnic blanket on the grass and listening to Shakespeare's poetry."

Theatre Horizon's performances of As You Like It will begin Thursday, July 21 and run through Sunday July 30 at various locations in the surrounding area including Bryn Mawr, Kimberton, Elmwood Park Zoo in Norristown, Valley Forge Park, and Graeme Park in Horsham PA.

A special performance is scheduled for July 30 at Elmwood Park Zoo in Norristown. "Theatre Horizon is excited to partner with the Zoo and present Shakespeare among the animals at the zoo's beautiful outdoor ampatheatre," says Reilly. Doors open at 6:15 pm with picnic tables avilable for families to bring their dinner to enjoy before the show.

As You Like It is followed by Theatre Horizon's 7th season, which includes a production of David Linsay-Abaire's Kimberly Akimbo in September, Christmas Cabaret in December and the Pulitzer Prize winning play, How I Learned To Drive in April. Theatre Horizon's mission is to encourage audience members, artists, and students to create a community through theatre. As an active participant in the Norristown Arts Task Force, Theatre Horizon's goal is to revitalize the old industrial riverside town by bringing arts and nightlife to the suburban downtown area.
