Theater with a View, Pottstown's professional site-specific theatre company, returns this July with a brand new production of David Lindsay-Abaire's award-winning drama Rabbit Hole. The production, which will be staged entirely outdoors at the Sycamore Hill estate (481 Ebelhare Road, Pottstown, PA), begins previews on Wednesday, July 12 and will run through Saturday, July 29.
The cast includes Drexel Hill's Drew Seltzer (off-Broadway's The Franklin Thesis, Tony n' Tina's Wedding, All Those Who Enter It in the West End) as Howie, Jo Twiss (Broadway's Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Barrymore nominated for Moon for the Misbegotten at Bristol Riverside Theatre) as Nat, Nina Covalesky (Detroit, Circle Mirror Transformation, Proof with Theater with a View) as Becca, Connor Johnston (NBC's Grimms and Elementary) as Jason, and Jessica Myhr (TWAV's Proof and Detroit, Actors Shakespeare Company, All My Children) as Izzy.
The Pulitzer-Prize winning drama, which premiered on Broadway in 2006 and was later adapted into a 2010 film starring Nicole Kidman, centers around a seemingly picture-perfect suburban family, Becca and Howie Corbett, and how they deal with the sudden and tragic loss of their young son in a freak accident. A play about a family on the brink of falling apart trying to navigate unimaginable grief, Rabbit Hole charts a bittersweet search for comfort in the darkest of places. The production will be directed by Theater with a View's Artistic Director, Seth Reich (American Repertory Theatre, Classic Stage Company).
Theater with a View's signature site-specific outdoor stagings of modern dramas have won rave critical reviews and media attention from WHYY/NPR, Broad Street Review, DC Metro Theatre Arts, and The Philadelphia Inquirer, which called last season's production of Detroit "smoldering...[the] direction coolly navigates the shift from ordinary to absurd, laying this backyard barbecue like a minefield of repressed frustrations and desires. " The company, which was founded in 2014, was launched with the goal of providing an artistic home for the development and production of site-specific, environmental, and other non-traditional stagings of contemporary plays to engage a diverse audience.
Rabbit Hole will perform Wednesday through Saturday at 7PM. Ticket reservations are $25; every Wednesday will be "pay what you wish" nights, where audience members can decide their price point for tickets. Additionally, given the outdoor nature of the performance, ticket holders may "flex" their date of attendance (pending seat availability) if there is inclement weather. Reservations and more information can be found at theaterwithaview.com.
