The Town and Country Players Present ALL MY SONS 7/17-8/1 In Buckingham

The Town and Country Players will stage Arthur Miller's New York Drama Critics Circle Award-winning play All My Sons, opening on Friday, July 17 and running through Saturday, August 1 at their venue in Buckingham. Written in 1947, All My Sons was Miller's first big success, pre-dating his Death of a Salesman and The Crucible, and it enjoyed a recent successful revival on Broadway starring John Lithgow and Dianne Wiest. Now 62 years after it opened, the question the play asked then still has relevance: as members of society, do we have moral responsibilities that extend beyond ourselves and our own family?

The year is 1947. The Great Depression was no longer a devastating threat to our economy. Some of the "Greatest Generation" soldiers were still returning home after being victorious in Europe and Asia. Sadly, many others of them still lay buried in foreign soil or at the oceans' depths leaving their families with the task of hanging their Gold Stars in memory of them in the front windows of the homes they left to fight a war some few years ago.

Back in the time when the music of the Big Bands of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey and Benny Goodman were the rage, we find ourselves in Middle America in the backyard of Joe and Kate Keller. At first glance, all seems so normal and casual and then with each passing hour we see how a secret shared only by Joe and Kate once disclosed can move family and neighbors from suspicion to condemnation and ultimately to despair.

The play's director, Fran Girard, lived during the Great Depression and World War II and with the help of a brilliant cast, promises to bring some of us back to revisit the decade of the 1940's and allow others of younger generations to discover what it was like living as their grandparents and parents lived "back then".
