"Heathers, The Musical: High School Edition" is the darkly delicious story of Veronica Sawyer, a brainy, beautiful teenage misfit who hustles her way into the most powerful and ruthless clique at Westerberg High: the Heathers. But before she can get comfortable atop the high school food chain, Veronica falls in love with the dangerously handsome new kid J.D.
When Heather Chandler, the Almighty, kicks her out of the group, Veronica decides to bite the bullet... but J.D. has another plan for that bullet. The High School Edition of this musical has edited out much profanity, sexual material and innuendos, and the song "Blue" has been replaced by the new song "You're Welcome".However, the main story is still the same and is extremely relevant to current times. The Media Theatre strives to produce teen musicals in the summer that are thought-provoking and highly educational, so "Heathers" fits the bill with themes of suicide and gun violence at schools. The show does not promote these themes, but touches upon them in such a way that teenagers are able to create discussion. The show features a live band on stage conducted and led by the theatre's Resident Music Director Ben Kapilow.
