Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart | Adagio and Fugue in C minor, K. 546
Writing a "strict" fugue was rare form for a composer whose usually independent musical lines have interwoven flawlessly in all of his works. Written originally for two keyboards, Mozart's satisfaction with his Fugue in C minor inspired him to arrange it for strings five years later, when he also added the Adagio introduction to the work heard on this occasion.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart | Sinfonia Concertante in E-flat major, K. 364
Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante in E-flat major for violin, viola, and orchestra is the greatest work in his vast repertoire for concerts of two or more solo instruments and orchestra. His knowledge of the violin from past studies and his love for the viola are evident in this piece, with both instruments complementing each other through soaring phrases and intense passages combining virtuosity, elegance and emotional power.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart | Symphony No. 29 in A major, K. 201
Symphony No. 29 was the earliest of Mozart's symphonies that has won a place in the standard orchestral repertoire. It is one of his more serious works with ambitious horn parts, bold rhythmic motifs and the breaking up of musical ideas due to enjambment, requiring poised and polished technique from the musicians of the orchestra. His 29th Symphony is rich in harmonic texture and expressivity, and a remarkable work for his time.
