Slave Narratives Revisited is an uplifting collection of stories, diary entries, letters and news accounts of enslaved Africans, political prisoners, abused mail order brides and literary figures. The piece spans the globe with characters from South Carolina to South Africa, from Israel to India.
A two man tour de force that is a celebration of Freedom told from the perspective of oppressed and oppressor. The play stars Ed Shockley and lary moten. Fast paced and accessible, the play confronts the issues of slavery and still lifts up its audience.
"It is the mesmerizing performances by Shockley and moten that truly make this piece soar...these guys employ a formidable arsenal of physical and vocal nuances to inhabit their various characters, and neither of them misses a beat. To read Slave Narratives Revisited would be one thing-an emotional but ultimately academic experience-but to see it breathing, to feel your pulse synchronize with the rhythms of speech, to look these characters in the eyes, to hear the silence, this is why we get out of our rocking chairs and into the theater." stated BRIAN REED, The Washington City Paper
