The Philadelphia region's professional premiere of Broadway's Tony winning musical "Thoroughly Modern Millie" is at The Media Theatre May 6-June 7.
Based on the 1967 hit film which starred Julie Andrews, "Millie" tells the tale of a young woman in the 1920's who moves to Manhattan to find a beau and launch a career. The show has plenty of romance, high-energy choreography, and plenty of comedy to engage audiences of all ages.
Courtney Romano plays Millie Dillmount in The Media Theatre's production. Courtney's past credits include "Kiss Me, Kate" at Glimmerglass Opera, "42nd Street" and "High School Musical 2" at North Shore Music Theatre, and roles in "White Christmas", "The Full Monty", and "Oklahoma!". She earned her B.A. in Theatre and Dance from Muhlenberg College.
"Playing Millie Dillmount, for me, is tapping into the strongest, fiercest, most direct and convicted parts of myself," Courtney explained. "Millie is the perfect amalgamation of the modern woman - just because she is gutsy and powerful, doesn't mean she loses her tenderness and vulnerability."
When asked how Millie differs from other famous leading ladies, Courtney says, "There are so many female characters in musical theatre who use pure physicality to get what they want, and for Millie, her brains and energy are her most compelling traits. Developing the character of Millie Dillmount has been an incredible opportunity to play a woman who knows what she wants, but is still so open to what life has to offer."
The Media Theatre's "Thoroughly Modern Millie" is the perfect gift for Mother's Day! Call 610-891-0100 for tickets or visit
