Internationally produced, award-winning playwright Nagle Jackson will unveil a world premiere comedy, The White Room, at Hedgerow Theatre, April 17 through May 10 at the theatre on 64 Rose Valley Road, Rose Valley.

For what he calls this "tabula rasa for the 21st century life style," and "an opportunity to examine what the underpinnings of our lives really are," Jackson brings together a truly multigenerational cast featuring long-time Hedgerow ensemble favorite Zoran Kovcic and Steve Kuhel, both fresh from acclaimed performances in Arms and the Man. Making their Hedgerow debuts are guest artists Ed Swidey and Leigh Murray.

A major international director and playwright who joins the Hedgerow ensemble annually, Jackson directs this insightful world-premiere comedy, which he said was inspired when "a friend told me about her shock when she discovered her apartment had been burglarized.'" Jackson said it led him to reflect on how "personally attached many of us are to our possessions, our ‘stuff." In this play two relatively prosperous persons, a couple, are faced with this challenge: to find out if there's really anything to their relationship, or to themselves, aside from the "stuff" they've acquired. We see people facing this after hurricanes, fires, etc., but then there is at least a rational explanation. I wanted to set up a sort of social experiment to see what happens when there is no rational explanation."

"We are honored to be able to feature a Nagle Jackson play annually," said Producing Artistic Director Penelope Reed. Reed was a leading actress, director and playwright when Jackson was Artistic Director at the McCarter and Milwaukee Repertory Theatres.

The White Room, part of the Hedgerow's equity artist Signature series, plays 8 p.m. Fridays; 4 and 8 p.m. Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays, April 17 through May 10. A 1 p.m. Wednesday matinee with a tea party intermission is also offered May 6. Tickets are $12 for children and $20-$30 for adults with $3 discounts for seniors, groups and students. The show is suggested for mature audiences only. The show previews April 17-19 and opens with a complimentary meet-the-cast post-show receptionApril 24.
