The goal for the Curtain Call Campaign is $45,000 and plans are in place for a Spring 2014 rising.
"Once again, the community has demonstrated its affection for the State Theatre," comments Shelley Brown, State Theatre President & CEO.
The non-profit State Theatre Center for the Arts in Easton announced the year end gift campaign in November, asking the community to contribute and be part of a true legacy of the theatre. The Theatre hopes the community will continue to show their support for the project in the next few weeks to reach the campaign goal.
"Our patrons truly appreciate the elegance of the architecture and lavish elements like the crystal chandeliers and the velvet seats and our beloved curtain," adds Brown. "Yes, we need a new one, but the good news is that we have worn this one ragged....that is something to be proud of! Now, we are on our way to replacing it with a new one, which will rise on many more wonderful shows."
The present main stage curtain was purchased in 1986 and has seen its share of legendary superstars, Broadway hits and 11 years of FREDDY© students. At a distance, it appears to be in good condition, but with closer inspection deterioration is evident. In 2010, part of the curtain tore under its own weight.
