The Media Theatre Spring session of acting and voice classes begins Saturday March 17. All classes follow the
Sanford Meisner Technique. This allows even young ages to focus on a pattern which allows them to be their own unique self, with no pretending in the script situation or copying someone else's performance. The practice also creates a stronger sense of self-awareness, which then applies to life off-stage in daily routines.
All classes follow an eight-week schedule and are 90 minutes weekly. They are helpful for the beginner or experienced performer, as each participant works at their own level.
The Spring Children's Acting Class starts up Saturday morning March 17. Several partnering exercises are utilized as well as lessons on diction, volume, stage direction, and improvisational theatre. It meets Saturdays at 9am.
Teens meet Sundays at 6pm, focusing on memorizing monologues and doing scene work together. The class assists with focus and discipline, with an emphasis on building personality and confidence. The Teen Acting Class begins Sunday March 18.
The Adult Acting Class also starts up for the Spring on March 18 at 7:30pm. The sessions build stage skills, developing the ability to speak clearly and with conviction. It is helpful for those who have a career involving public speaking, although partnering scene work is a large part of the curriculum.
The popular and fun Spring Voice Class meets on Tuesdays at 4:30pm beginning March 20. With music director Mike Malloy, of the group Old Man Cactus, students ages 8 and up work on solo selections that will emphasize singing technique and the art of communicating through song.
