Save the Day Productions Presents SUPERHEROES WHO ARE SUPER, 2/12

Save The Day Productions signature series, Super Heroes Who Are Super!, presented every Second
Saturday by Plays & Players, delivers word-for-word staged readings of comic books that at once
celebrate and parody the soap operatic qualities of classic comics. Each performance runs approximately one hour and features one or two comic books brought to life with the best in low budget costumes and special effects, witty word play and absurd physical hijinks alike.

Since its inception in 2007 by creator Daniel Student, Super Heroes Who Are Super! has performed to sold out audiences of regular theater goers and comic book aficionados alike at its Philadelphia home, Plays & Players Theatre, including a run in the 2009 and 2010 Philly Fringe. Additionally, Super Heroes Who Are Super! performed at the Capital Fringe Festival in Washington, DC in July, 2010 and is a regular at Atomic Comics on South Street.

"There is a rawness, an intimacy, and an electricity to these performances," says Mr. Student. "The audience has such an absolute love for the material and the actors playing off their energy highlights what live theater is all about - shared joy. Imagine a Batman, a Superman, or a Wolverine you can reach out and touch - its as ridiculous as it is wonderful."

Celebrate Black History Month with an all African-American cast performing the first comic to feature a black superhero as leading man! Sound like a serious and important event that you can't miss? Um... did we mention that the villain's name in this book is "Kill-Monger?"

Cara Blouin has been working as a director in Philadelphia since 2009. She was the founder and artistic director of Stone Soup Theatre Arts in New York before spending two years in China directing an artsbasEd English language school. Her most recent directing credits include The Golden Ladder, Double & Small, and Alabama, Alabama, all new plays. She was one of the original directors of the Superheroes Who Are Super project.

Gerard Joseph (T'Challa/Black Panther) will finish his training at The Maggie Flanigan Acting
Conservatory in NYC this spring. Recent credits include Flashpoint Theater's Run Mourner, Run, Lee
Colston's Roost (Winner of the 2010 Phila Urban Theater Festival), and Plays & Players' Take Me Out. Look for Gerard in the upcoming Off-Broadway premier of American Lullaby (Feb 9th).
