The Media Theatre's Roger Ricker has his annual fundraiser tonight, August 14. Each summer for the past eight years Ricker has held a concert to raise funds for the theatre's youth programs. This year's concert, "Star Power", will feature several special guests and members of the theatre's youth ensemble as they come together to celebrate with enthusiasm and a great message.

"The theme this year is one of encouragement," Ricker explained. "It's an inspirational message stating that all of us, no matter what who we are or what we do, are Stars in our own right! Everyone onstage or off has something special to offer. It's all about finding that unique talent within us that propels us forward and encourages others to be who they are as well. So "Star Power" refers to the youth, to the audience, and to our supporters-The title is not a self-indulgent reference."

Ricker has been working with Artistic Director Jesse Cline and Executive Director Patrick Ward for over 20 years. He has been seen in over 90 productions, including the recent "Hairspray", "Disney's 101 Dalmatians", and "The Jungle Book". He directed the popular "Pinkalicious" this past spring.

"We always have a great time at these concerts," Ricker continued. "We have The State Street Miracles, our performance troupe of adults with developmental disabilities, making an appearance. The Miracles were honored by the United States Congress this past March and represent the best in all of us. They truly are Stars!"

Other special guests include several youth who have appeared previously at The Media Theatre and have been involved in the New School, acting classes, and children's shows. There will be professional adult performers featured as well. "One of our New School students will be accompanying us on percussion this time around," Ricker said.

Ricker is focusing on upbeat songs with positive messages such as "More Love", "What the World Needs Now", "My Love Is Your Love", "From A Distance" and "That's What Friends Are For". Along with songs from "Hair" and "101 Dalmatians" the youth ensemble will join him for "We Will Rock You/ We Are The Champions".

"Anyone who sings on The Media Theatre stage, performs in our musicals or children's series or is an audience member is a Champion," Ricker said. "It's that type of Star Power that moves us forward and it's what we need to celebrate this summer."
