Civic Theatre of Allentown, home to the Lehigh Valley's premier children's theatre school, has opened registration for its 2009-2010 classes. Civic Theatre School provides the Valley's youth with an exciting program in drama and movement, in turn helping to develop discipline, teamwork and self-confidence along the way. Registration forms are available online at civictheatre.com, by calling Civic's Box Office at 610.432.8943 or by stopping by Civic's 19th Street Theatre at 527 N 19th Street in Allentown.
Students at Civic Theatre School are exclusively given the chance each year to perform in a special kids-only production, the past two being High School Musical and Willy Wonka Jr, and this year's slated to be Annie Jr. CTS students are also regularly used in Civic's yearly production of A Christmas Carol, just like 9-year old Reese Diaz of Coplay did last year when he played the feature role of Tiny Tim. "Getting to be Tiny Tim was a lot of fun," says Diaz, "I got to spend a lot of time with all of my CTS friends and can't wait to audition again this year!"
The 2009-2010 Civic Theatre School classes are being offered to children from age 4 to grade 12 (09-10 school year). There is both a Fall and a Winter term. Registrants can do both terms, or pick one or the other. The class for children aged 4 and/or in kindergarten will be held on Thursdays beginning on September 17th and ending on November 12th for Fall term, and beginning on January 14th and ending March 11th for Winter term. All other classes are held on Saturdays beginning on September 12th and ending November 7th for fall term and beginning January 9th and ending March 13th for winter term. Full details on the class dates/times, including the teachers and their bios, are on the second page of this release.
The prices for Civic Theatre School are the same as they've been for the past two years. The cost to put one child in both sessions of Civic Theatre School stays at $475 ($350 for the age 4/kindergarten class) and $285 for just one of the sessions ($210 age 4/kindergarten). Those prices are for all who get their payments in on or before September 12th; fees will be assessed onto late payments. Interested parents must fill out and mail in a registration form in order to sign their child up for CTS; these are available at civictheatre.com, by calling Civic's Box Office at 610.432.8943, or by stopping by Civic's 19th Street Theatre at 527 N 19th Street in Allentown.
Established more than fifty years ago on the principle of "giving each child the assurance of what he is capable of doing himself," Civic Theatre School has a long-standing tradition of instilling a love of live theatre in the Lehigh Valley's children.
