The Players Club of Swarthmore opens its 106th season of spectacular theater with the Kander and Ebb murder mystery musical comedy Curtains, Sept 23 to Oct 8, for ten performances at 614 Fairview Ave. in Swarthmore.

Ryan Stone directs this hilarious comedy with music direction by Patrick D'Amato, choreography by Maria Byers, book by Rupert Holmes, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb.

From Kander and Ebb, the creators of Cabaret and Chicago, Curtains mixes an Agatha Christie-like mystery with the song and dance of a Broadway musical. Set in 1959 Boston, this twisty whodunit tracks the behind-the-scenes misadventures of police detective Lt. Frank Cioffi (Mike Sokolowski) investigating the death of a new musical's talentless star. But the stage-struck cop soon finds himself entangled in a romance -- and somehow starring in the show itself as it heads for New York and Broadway. The thoroughly entertaining Curtains, which scored eight Tony Award nominations in 2007, including Best Musical, Book and Original Score, will entertain audiences of all ages.

In addition to Sokolowski, from Philadelphia, Stone has assembled a talented cast of regional actors including Dana Corvino, Philadelphia (Georgia Hendricks); Chaz Meyers, Media (Aaron Fox); Jodi Persing, Swedesboro, NJ (Bambi); John Casertano (Christopher Belling); Jacob Mergott, Swarthmore (Bobby Pepper); Kara McGee, Swarthmore (Niki Harris), and Paul Kerrigan, Secane (Oscar Shappiro). Constance Clay Pelesh, Media; and Donna Dougherty, Bryn Mawr; are double cast as Carmen Bernstein. Rounding out the cast are Kevin Gane, Vinni Ali, Karen Johnston, Dave Griffith, Patrick Damato, Patrick Gaughan, Tommy Bennett, Nick Shaffer, Amelia SanFilippo, Katie Phillips, Laura Stone, and Emily Fishman. Mary Leigh Filippone is the producer.

Curtains runs from Friday, Sept. 23 through Saturday, Oct. 8. Thursday performances are at 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday performances are at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m. Audiences can meet the artists in a talkback discussion after the Oct. 2 performance.
