Just in time for the new year, The Players Club of Swarthmore presents the quirky romantic comedy Italian American Reconciliation, Jan. 5-20, for 10 performances on the PCS Main Stage at 614 Fairview Ave., Swarthmore. Buy tickets online at www.pcstheater.org.
Written by John Patrick Shanley (Moonstruck, Doubt) and directed by Kristy Boyer Chen, Italian American Reconciliation tells the story of Huey Bonfigliano, who has romantic problems. After divorcing his ill-tempered wife, Huey attempts to busy himself with the arts. But no matter how evil she may have been, bad poetry and a new girlfriend cannot help him take his mind off of his ex. Against the advice of his best friend, Huey sets out to win her back. Featuring a moonlit balcony scene straight out of Cyrano de Bergerac, Shanley's quick moving and hilarious play offers up a slice of New York Americana, Italian style.
Boyer Chen has assembled a smart cast of experienced local actors, including Vincent Ali, Springfield (Aldo); Steven Piccirelli, Ardmore (Hugo); Leslie Norton, Media (May); Lauren Jones, Secane (Teresa); and Suzette Krausen, Norristown (Janice).
Italian American Reconciliation runs from Friday, Jan. 5, through Saturday, Jan. 20. Thursday performances are at 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday performances are at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m. Also, audiences can meet the artists in a talkback discussion after the Dec. 3 performance.
