Philly Improv Theater (PHIT) is pretty much flipping out over the month they have coming up. In addition to new Improv Level 1, Improv Level 2, and Sketch Level 1 classes on the horizon, they've also got three totally awesome and unique opportunities in October.
First, they welcome Kevin Allison of MTV's The State and the popular podcast RISK! to our teaching staff as a regular instructor. Some of you may have seen Kevin or had the chance to work with him this past April when he performed and led workshops at PHIT. Now we're brining him back for a special class - Writing A Sketch Comedy Show - that will run for 9 weeks and finish with a 2 performance sketch comedy show run at the theater. Students who have taken Sketch Level 1, are enrolled in Sketch Level 1 (so sneak into our Sept. session), or have equivalent experience can sign up for this awesome opportunity.
Then, we have former SNL writer and founder/owner of the Peoples Improv Theater, Ali Farahnakian leading two sessions (afternoon and evening) of his popular "Writing for SNL" weekend intensive where he evaluates and workshops your sketches and helps you prepare a packet. He's also leading a great improv master class as well.
Finally, Asaf Ronen - author of Directing Improv - is returning to PHIT to host two great workshops. Sunday, Oct. 4th he'll do "Getting Yourself Out of Your Own Way" for experienced improvisers and on Monday, Oct. 5th he's doing a special workshop for professional actors/actresses on using improv techniques to look at roles with fresh perspectives.
Vote PHIT for the FOX Hot List TODAY! Just two days left to do this! Don't think, just do it:
FOX 29 is one again running their HOT LIST contest - where the winners are decided by everyday people like you - and Philly Improv Theater is in the running this year. Right now we are in second place, but if you take 2 minutes to visit our page and vote for us I'm sure we can pull ahead. We need you to vote now though! Also, if you already voted for someone else but want to change your vote, you can do that too!
Full disclosure - they are gonna ask for your email address, but you can then immediately click a little box to opt out of ever hearing from them again (they're just asking to make sure you only vote once anyways). Long Live PHIT! Viva L'Improvisation! And Thanks For Helping!
If you've gone to -- or are going to -- see a PHIT-related show in the Fringe this year, consider writing an audience review to tell everyone how much fun you had! There are two places to post your reviews this year -- Philly Fun Guide and City Paper. You don't have to sign up to be a member of either site -- just hop over, write your review, and submit it! It's as easy as eating pudding, if you already have pudding in your fridge. And don't have to register on a website to eat it.

Philly Improv Theater (PHIT) is the only longform improvisation theater in the Metro Philadelphia area. Founded as a nonprofit in 2005, PHIT embraces the art of improvisation as an end rather than a means - creating and producing improv, sketch, and alternate comedy shows in the tradition of theaters like Chicago's Second City and New York's Upright Citizens Brigade. To further this philosophy, PHIT offers it's own take on the theories and concepts behind good improvisation in a full curriculum of classes for performers of all skill levels taught by local talent and through master classes with distinguished performers and teachers from all over the world (including Impro author Keith Johnstone, Joe Bill and Mark Sutton of The Second City, and former SNL writer Ali Farahnakian). In addition to performing as part of PHIT's weeklong residency at The Shubin Theatre each month, local improv troupes produced and presented by PHIT have toured extensively on the East Coast and performed in festivals throughout North America.
