Philadelphia's Inis Nua Theatre Company will present the world premiere of The Hand of Gaul by Jared Michael Delaney, running April 9-28 at the Off-Broad Street Theater in the First Baptist Church (1636 Sansom Street).
The Hand of Gaul is part of the Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts 2013 (PIFA), which posed the question "if you had a time machine...where would you go?" Inis Nua's answer is November 14, 2009, when Ireland was knocked out of 2010 World Cup competition by the unchecked foul of French superstar, Thierry Henry. Three fiercely proud (albeit not overly bright) Irish fans decide to avenge their team. This Inis Nua original takes on World Cup elimination and a nation's pride as international intrigue, a rare Belgian beer and the world's most popular sport come together in unexpected ways. Directed by Tom Reing and starring Adam Altman, Damon Bonetti, Jared Michael Delaney, and Harry Smith. Featuring Megan Bellwoar and Leonard Haas.
Inis Nua presents contemporary plays from Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales. When asked why he was drawn to create theatre around these cultures, Founder/Artistic Director Tom Reing said, "Because I love these cultures. I love their histories; but more importantly, I love what they are today and want to share that with audiences. It is the mixing of these cultures' great traditions of storytelling with contemporary themes and times that I think stays with you."
Opening night is April 10 at 7pm, with a preview on April 9. The Hand of Gaul runs for 3 weeks, through April 28. Tickets are $20 and $25. To purchase tickets and for further information, phone (215) 454-9776 or visit http://inisnuatheatre.org.
