ComedySportz Philadelphia announced today that it is set to host the 26th Annual ComedySportz World Championship July 12-18, 2010. This marks the first time the tournament has come to the City of Brotherly Love. All of the matches will be held at World Café Live, 3025 Walnut Street.

ComedySportz is a fun, fast-paced improv comedy show that is geared to all ages. In the vein of Whose Line Is It Anyway, ComedySportz is improvisational comedy played as a sport. A national organization, there are over 20 cities worldwide, with teams in the U.S., as well as a team in Manchester, UK., and Berlin, Germany. During each match, two teams battle for laughs and points as they make up scenes, games and songs on the spot. The audience votes for the winners and a referee calls the fouls, including a groaner foul for bad puns. The tournament will feature three nights of competition among national and international ComedySportz cities. Each show leading up to the championship match will feature four different teams from four different cities. The two teams that emerge victorious in those early rounds will compete in the late show on Saturday for the World Championship, with one city emerging as the world champ.

"For the past 17 years ComedySportz Philly has always sent a team to World Championship and long dreamt of hosting it in our home town. It's a big undertaking, but this year everything was just so well aligned that the timing is just so right to bring this event to Philadelphia," said ComedySportz Philadelphia Executive Director, David Dritsas. "We can't wait for the shows. They'll be a good introduction to ComedySportz for people who don't know us yet, but for our current fan-base there is nothing that matches the positive excitement and comic variety that a championship show offers. Personally, I've been doing this for nine years and have been in over 400 shows, but I still get swept up in the energy that comes out of any of the championship matches."

The ComedySportz World Tournament Schedule is as follows, Early Rounds will be held on July 15 and 16, 2010 at 7pm and 9:30pm. And on July 17, 2010 at 7pm. The World Championship Final will be held July 17, 2010 at 9:30pm. The exact line-ups are TBA.

Six-Show Pass, Covers Shows all three nights: $100.00 / $90.00 for students (available in person only with valid student ID) All shows Thursday and Friday and Saturday's Early Show: $18.00 each / $15.00 for students (available in person only with valid student ID) Saturday's Championship Show: $21.00 each / $18.00 for students (available in person only with valid student ID)

ComedySportz is Philadelphia's leading improv comedy show. Since 1993 ComedySportz has been entertaining fans with the fastest and funniest form of improv comedy ever seen. Two teams of improvisers vie for points in a hilarious competition by playing a series of improv games, similar to what you may have seen on TV's Whose Line Is It Anyway? A referee governs the action, calling fouls and keeping the match moving at a blistering pace. The audience is always a part of the interactive show, and audience volunteers sometimes even wind up on stage! Because everything is improvised, it's never the same show twice. And it's clean-appropriate for all ages. Every ComedySportz match is a unique and unforgettable event-laughs guaranteed! Come see why so many people come back to see us again and again.
