Maestro Louis Scaglione, President and Music Director of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra (PYO), today announced that PYO percussionist Gregory LaRosa will receive a $30,000 scholarship from The Scholarship Foundation of The Union League of Philadelphia for his college education.

The Scholarship Foundation is awarding $220,000 to exceptional, regional high school students in a special awards ceremony on May 30th. Of 14 finalists, Mr. LaRosa was one of eight students this year to receive an award ranging from $20,000 to $30,000.

The Union League Scholarship Foundation awards scholarships to high school seniors who have received the Good Citizenship Award through the Youth Work program. The students represent youth service organizations that serve communities throughout the Delaware Valley. Since 1955 nearly 900 students have stepped into higher education with the help of a Union League Scholarship. Union League Scholars demonstrate civic commitment, superior academic achievement, exemplary community service and financial need. The Scholarship program is made possible through generous donations from individual Union League members, Affinity Clubs and Club Tables.

"Congratulations to Gregory LaRosa for being recognized and honored by The Union League of Philadelphia," said Maestro Scaglione. "The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra organization nominated Mr. LaRosa because he is an exceptional young man and we look forward to great things from him in the future, as he graduates from Downingtown West High School and proceeds to Julliard this fall."
