Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Announces Ensemble Festival Concerts

Maestro Louis Scaglione, President and Music Director of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra organization (PYO) today announced the Festival Concert dates for all five of PYO's programs.

Tune Up Philly, PYO's El Sistema-inspired, free after-school music program for more than 100 elementary school students in North Philadelphia is holding its 3rd Annual Festival Concert at the Free Library of Philadelphia, Main Branch on Saturday, May 18th at 1:00 p.m. The students in Tune Up Philly will culminate their year-long partnership with the Free Library in this free, community concert, led by Director Delia Raab-Snyder and Assistant Director Paul Smith.

The Philadelphia Region Young String Music (PRYSM) program will hold its 6th Annual Festival Concert onSaturday, May 18th at 3:00 p.m. at Centennial Hall, The Haverford School in Haverford, Pa. Dozens of young string musicians, many from the Main Line, will perform under Gloria dePasquale and Jessica Bowman.

The Philadelphia Young Artists Orchestra (PYAO) will hold its 18th Annual Festival Concert in the Perelman Theater at The KimMel Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, May 19th at 7:30 p.m. Nearly 100 gifted middle- and high-school students from the Tri-State region will perform Balakirev's Overture on Three Russian Folk Songs, Dvorak's Symphony No. 8 and Schubert's Symphony No. 8 - "Unfinished" under the direction of Maestro Geoffrey McDonald.

The 10th Annual Bravo Brass Festival Concert, "Music of the Masters" will be held on Saturday, June 1st at 7:30 p.m. at Saint Mark's Church, 1625 Locust Street in Philadelphia. Nearly 20 of the region's top, high-school brass students will perform music by Bach, Bizet, Bruckner and other notable composers under the direction of Maestro Paul Bryan, Interim Dean of The Curtis Institute of Music and the Founding Director of Bravo Brass.

The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, now in its 73rd Annual Season, will perform Mahler's Symphony No. 2 "Resurrection" with The Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia under the direction of Maestro Scaglione for its Annual Festival Concert. Michelle Johnson, Soprano; and Chrystal E. Williams, Mezzo Soprano will join more than 100 of the region's top classical music students in Verizon Hall at The KimMel Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, June 2nd at 7:30 p.m.
