Pittsburgh Public Theater turns up the heat with The World Goes 'Round, a song & dance revue of music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, the team who wrote hits such as "All That Jazz," "Cabaret," and "New York, New York." Directed and choreographed by Marcia Milgrom Dodge and featuring a cast of five plus six musicians, The World Goes 'Round runs March 5 - April 5, 2009 at the O'Reilly Theater, Pittsburgh Public Theater's home in the heart of Downtown's Cultural District.
Tickets: 412.316.1600 or www.ppt.org. Pittsburgh Public Theater is led by Producing Artistic Director Ted Pappas.
For more than 40 years John Kander (music) and Fred Ebb (lyrics) wrote together for Broadway musicals, TV and film, collaborating with show biz legends such as Harold Prince, Bob Fosse, Liza Minnelli, and Barbra Streisand. Their work has received multiple Tony, Grammy and Academy
Awards.
Conceived by Scott Ellis, Susan Stroman and David Thompson, The World Goes 'Round pulls together more than two dozen songs from Kander & Ebb's amazing repertoire. Some of the numbers are funny ("Coffee in a Cardboard Cup," the ode to pastries "Sara Lee," "The Grass is Always
Greener" from Woman of the Year). Some are wistful ("Colored Lights" from The Rink; "Mr. Cellophane" from Chicago). Several are brassy crowd-pleasers ("New York, New York," written for Martin Scorsese's film and Frank Sinatra's signature; "Ring Them Bells" from the TV concert Liza with a Z; "The Rink," featuring roller skating! by cast members; and Chicago's "Me and My Baby" with banjo breaks). And then there is "Cabaret," the quintessential Kander & Ebb anthem of razzle-dazzle determination.
Pittsburgh Public Theater had a record-breaking success with Cabaret, starring Tari Kelly as Sally Bowles. She will return in The World Goes 'Round accompanied by Patrick Boyd, Rosena M. Hill, Michele Ragusa, and
Rob Sutton. The design team is: Narelle Sissons (Scenery), Martha Louise Bromelmeier (Costumes), Kirk Bookman (Lighting), and Zach Moore (Sound). Michael Rice is the Music Director. Zoya Kachadurian is the Production Stage Manager and Adrienne Wells is the Assistant Stage Manager.
