Monkey Baa Theatre Company have just announced that their original play Diary of a Wombat, is an official selection for the International Performing Arts for Youth (IPAY) 2018 Artists Showcase.

The annual Showcase is the premiere event in North America, dedicated to promoting the best in international performing arts for young audiences. Companies from eight countries have been selected for the Showcase, with Monkey Baa the only Australian company selected to present work.

Based on the multi award-winning pictures books by Australian author Jackie French, Diary of A Wombat is about Mothball - the naughtiest wombat in Australia. Bored with her daily routine, Mothball goes in search of shelter and food, creating chaos in the lives of the humans around her.

Established in 1997 by Eva Di Cesare, Sandra Eldridge and Tim McGarry, Monkey Baa has become Australia's widest-reaching arts touring company; working with schools, artists and children's organisations across remote, regional, rural and metropolitan Australia and the USA. Diary of a Wombat has been touring venues across Australia since March, 2017.

"Monkey Baa reach more young people in Australia than any other theatre company," said Monkey Baa Creative Director and director of Diary of a Wombat, Eva Di Cesare. "We celebrate and bring to the stage the diversity of Australian stories, and follow the arc of childhood, creating theatre and education programs for ages 0 to 18."

"The attendance of Diary of a Wombat at IPAY 2018 will see Monkey Baa continue our important relationship with the North American market, which started in 2013 with our first international tour, Hitler's Daughter. We're excited to give U.S. audiences the opportunity to fall in love with Mothball like Australian audiences have throughout its current 59 venue tour."

The Showcase will take place in Philadelphia, USA from January 24th to 27th, 2018.
