Lantern Theater Company's Philadelphia premiere of Tom Stoppard's Heroes will be extended an additional week through Sunday, June 16 to accommodate audience demand-the fifth consecutive production of the 2012/13 season to be extended. In Stage Magazine, Debra Miller raves "The Lantern scores a huge victory with Heroes. Funny and profound and fully relatable; it's beautifully staged and brilliantly acted. A production like this reminds audiences and critics alike of why they love going to the theater." The Philadelphia Inquirer's David PatRick Stearns called young director M. Craig Getting's work "tightly focused" and Philadelphia Weekly's J. Cooper Robb adds "Getting's staging... embraces the play's charming intimacy. Buoyed by a trio of pitch-perfect performances, Lantern's involving production allows us to be entirely content spending a couple of hours with these proud men who, despite their frailties, are determined that their final years of life are not devoid of adventure or joy."
The following performances have been added:
Wednesday, Jun. 12 at 7:00 p.m.
Thursday, Jun. 13 at 7:00 p.m.
Friday, Jun. 14 at 8:00 p.m.
Saturday, Jun. 15 at 8:00 p.m.
Sunday, Jun. 16 at 2:00 p.m.
In Heroes, war heroes Gustave (Dan Kern), Philippe (Mal Whyte) and Henri (Peter DeLaurier) are plotting an escape. They've had enough of the tortures of their confinement: dictatorial captors, untrustworthy fellow prisoners, and far too many birthday parties. Indeed, life in a retired soldiers' home is almost unbearable! So, while keeping each other company on the back patio, they hatch a plan to escape to Indochina, or at least to a picnic under the poplars on a nearby hill. Winner of London's prestigious Olivier Award for Best New Comedy, Tom Stoppard's adaptation of this French play is playful, bawdy, and heartbreakingly funny.
