Langhorne Players at the Spring Garden Mill continue their 76th season with a heartrending production of the 1979 winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Buried Child. Written by Sam Shepard (Fool for Love, True West), Buried Child depicts with brutality and humor the disintegration of the American nuclear family and the American Dream in the 1970s. The play follows a rural Illinois family through their various disappointments, disillusionments, and breakdowns. Patriarch Dodge is an alcoholic who struggles with keeping a long-held family secret, while his wife, Halie, covers the pain of her favorite son's death with small talk and memories of the past. Their remaining sons, Tilden and Bradley, are aimless and purposeless... until the arrival of Vince, Tilden's long lost and forgotten son, and his girlfriend, Shelly, who are determined to find their place in this fractured family and to uncover the buried secrets of its past.
Buried Child is produced by Langhorne Players through special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc. Jack Bathke directs, with John Boccanfuso and Dawn Marshall producing. The cast features Rob Norman as Dodge, Susan Blair as Halie, David Sullivan as Tilden, Darin DeVivo as Bradley, Jeff Skomsky as Vince, Julianna Long as Shelly, and Rob Gelb as Father Dewis.
