Got spring fever yet? Is your family getting impatient to get out into the garden and start growing things? It may not be time to start planting those real beans yet - but the family can get in a little imaginary gardening with Jack and the Beanstalk at The Players Club of Swarthmore Theater in February.
It's the classic story story of Jack, who's father has been kidnapped by the terrible giant who lives in the clouds. To save his family from starvation, Jack must sell their beloved cow, Buttercup; but ends up trading for a handful of beans. The beans are magic, of course... and sprout into a beanstalk which reaches into the sky. With the help of his good fairy, Frippery, Jack saves his father and destroys the evil giant.
Director Anne Bailis of Havertown has assembled a talented cast of grown-up actors to bring this adventure to life for the youngest of audiences, including: Dylan Harrington and Kara Elizabeth McGee of Wallingford; Josiah Donnell, Kat Lemon and Jim Carroll of Springfield; Michelle Pascetta of Ridley and others.
Jack and the Beanstalk runs February 18-20, 25 and 26: Sunday's performance is at 11am, all others at 7pm. All of the Children's Series productions will be performed on The Players Club of Swarthmore's
Raymond W. Smith stage on the second floor. Admission is $10 at the door. The Players Club of Swarthmore is celebrating its 100th season. The theater is located at 614 Fairview Road-just off of Route 320 (Chester Road). It's only minutes from I-95 and Route 476 and about a mile from the Swarthmore stop of the R3 Regional Rail line. The Players Club offers plenty of free off-street parking. For more information about PCS, their Second Stage and Main Stage offerings, visit: www.pcstheater.org.
