Dealer's Choice is set in a blue-collar neighborhood in London, in a restaurant where the weekly poker game (for men only goes without saying) is about to occur. In the second act we move to the basement and the poker game begins. Poker, it's clear, is the way the winning players exercise their dominance over the lesser members of the band, and the arena where the losers try, and fail hilariously, to move up a peg in the esteem of the group. That one of the losers is the son of one of the winners adds depth to the drama, and the visit of a quiet man who asks to sit in on the game upends the expectations of all the players in this wickedly funny comedy.
The cast includes Stephen Connor of Wilmington, Steve Gudelunas of Philadelphia, Walter McCready of Chester, Sean McDermott of Phoenixville, Christopher Tolomeo of Springfield, and Steve Travers of Prospect Park.
Audience advisory: strong language. The Players Club's Raymond W. Smith stage is not handicapped-accessible.
