Sometimes, it can be fun to take holiday traditions and shake them up a bit. The Players Club of Swarthmore Theater is doing just that, with a classic that most people experience every December as one of a myriad of old-time gems that roll across television screens. This year, Frank Capra's classic story about a small-town banker is hitting the stage in a pretty unusual way. It's a Wonderful Life: a Live Radio Play will open just after Thanksgiving and play through the beginning of December.

Players Club of Swarthmore audiences will be transported to Christmas Eve, 1946, where they will become the studio audience at a live radio broadcast of this unforgettable story. George Bailey questions everything, even his own existence. But a gentle angel named Clarence helps him regain his perspective. George finds that his lifetime of helping others is repaid when his neighbors come together to save his family's Building and Loan Association - and each other's homes in the process.

Since actors in 1940's-era costumes will use only their voices to create the well-beloved characters, director Dennis Bloh of East Noritton had to cast some very versatile talent for this evening of nostalgia: Bob and Dale Dimond, Rose Azrael and Eric Humble of Media; Joseph Bloh of Somers Point, NJ; T.J. DeLuca of Havertown; Jim Hardy of Berwyn; Leigh Jacobs and Sharon Sigal of Wynnewood; Margo O'Moore of Ambler; Joe Pagano of Fairmont, and Donna Kelly Romero of Drexel Hill. They will be accompanied by sound effects created on stage by Foley Artist, Chris Mulford of Swarthmore.

It's a Wonderful Life: a Live Radio Play runs November 27- 29, December 3- 6, and December 10-13. Players Club of Swarthmore regulars will want to take note of the unusual schedule - there will not be a performance on Thursday, 11/26 (Thanksgiving), but an extra (third) Sunday will be added on 12/13. Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances are at 8pm and Sunday matinées are at 2pm. The Players Club of Swarthmore Theater is located minutes from the Blue Route and I-95 at on Fairview Road, just off Route 320 (Chester Road) in Swarthmore.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for students (18 and under or college students with ID) and $14 for seniors.
