Hedgerow Theatre continues its rich tradition of offering an autumn mystery with the Oct. 14th - Nov. 21st run of Agatha Christie's Murder on the Nile, directed by Barrymore award-winner David O'Connor.

To open Hedgerow's 88th season, Producing Artistic Director Penelope Reed selected both the critically acclaimed American Tragedy and Murder on the Nile for their focus on class struggle and the consequences of ambition gone awry. It's a testament to Agatha Christie's brilliance as an author that the play is still as thrilling and cunning a work of mystery as ever.

"How exciting to introduce Detroit actress Aphrodite Nikolovich to the Philadelphia area in Agatha Christie's complicated character Jacqueline. With Murder on the Nile, Christie chose to reinvigorate her approach to mystery, replacing Poirot, so central to the original story and film, with the colorful Canon Pennefather, played by veteran and Hedgerow favorite Zoran Kovcic. Once again prominent Philadelphia director David O'Connor joins us, having finished a highly-successful production of Peter Pan at the Arden." said Penelope Reed.

"I love how every character in this play has a secret. The rich, hidden agendas that are at odds with each other make for some very compelling and immediate drama. There is a certain pleasure seeing people at their worst fighting to keep their secrets hidden, and then systematically being unmasked," says Director O'Connor.

Special Equity Guest Artist, Aphrodite Nikolovich, joins Hedgerow veterans Zoran Kovcic and Susan Wefel as one of many suspects. The fast-paced thriller also showcases Hedgerow ensemble members Carl Smith, Tom Irvin and Rebecca Miglionico as well as resident company members David Polgar, Jeff Berry, Rachel Holmes, Saundra and Steve Gudelunas.

Of course, no show at Hedgerow is ever JUST a show-and this fall we have a surfeit of events for Murder On The Nile. On Saturday, October 30th, there will be an optionAl Halloween party, with prizes for the Scariest, Funniest, Best Couple, and Most Creative costumes,! On the Wednesday, October 20th and November 1st matinees, there will be a complimentary British-style tea party at intermission. And, the audience favorite whodunnit contest at intermission gives patrons the chance to sharpen their detective skills as they compete for prizes and try to guess who the murderer is!

Tickets to performances of Murder on the Nile at Hedgerow Theatre are $25; with $3 discounts for seniors. Tickets are $10 for students age 18 and under. Preview tickets are $20, and discount tickets for groups of 10 or more are also available.
