The Hedgerow Theatre have announced their season will continue with Shakespeare’s "The Comedy of Errors" from March 22 through April 29.
The theatre will be transformed into the ancient cities of Syracuse and Ephesus, the settings for "The Comedy of Errors," Shakespeare’s classic tale of mistaken identity. It was the Bard’s first comedy and one of his most farcical, involving two sets of twins who are separated from each other as children and reunited as adults.
“Shakespeare is an annual tradition here, which we’re continuing as we approach our 89th birthday,” remarked Producing Artistic Director Penelope Reed. “The cast is made up of the members of our resident company, an ensemble that lives and works together, just as acting troupes did in William Shakespeare’s time.”
Director Jared Reed said he plans to emphasize the slapstick with a touch of the modern clown. “It’s very much a company-created production,” he added.” “We have a small number of actors playing many, many roles, so I have the joy of leading this particular group in this particular play at this particular time. It would turn out completely differently with another set of players.”
After a preview at 7:30pm (March 22), performances are scheduled through April 29 at 7:30 pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, at 2 pm on Sundays and on Wednesdays, April 4 and 11, and at 4 pm on Saturday, April 7. There is no show on Sunday, April 8 or on Saturday, April 21. Special discounts are available for school groups; call for details.
