On Monday, March 1, the Garibaldi-Meucci Museum is offering you the opportunity to leave the dreary winter landscape of Staten Island and take a botanical journey around the globe. Join us for a bus trip to the world's largest indoor flower show, the Philadelphia International Flower Show. This year the theme is Passport to the World, with breathtaking displays of flowers from India, Brazil, the Netherlands, South Africa, New Zealand and Singapore. Thousands of plant and floral designs will be offered by local enthusiasts in hundreds of categories. There will also be free gardening presentations, as well as dozens of educational displays that explore the newest gardening trends.

One of the reasons the Philadelphia International Flower Show is considered the premier gardening event of its kind in the world is due in large part to the talent of its designers and their ability to exhibit such a great variety of exceptional plants. Flower show garden display exhibitors well versed in the art of forcing trees, shrubs and perennials into bloom use temperature and lighting controls to "fool" plants into full bloom in time for the March event.

Not just for flower enthusiasts, Passport to the World will offer shoppers a bustling marketplace with over 150 vendors selling garden furniture, one-of-a-kind plant containers, hand-crafted jewelry, specialty foods, cut flowers, unique plants, innovative garden tools, and an array of products to help get your garden started. New this year, the World Bazaar will offer silks and spices from India, weavings and carvings from South Africa, overflowing flower carts from the Netherlands-all manner of beautiful and exotic crafts and products from faraway places. Foodies will enjoy exploring the International Wine and Spirits Garden, which offers free tastings of fine wines, and the International Dessert and Coffee Bar.

Complementing the fabulous exhibits, shopping and great food will be live performances, provided by World Café Live, that will take audiences to Bollywood, Africa and South America.

The cost of $85 (payable to Garibaldi-Meucci Museum) includes transportation, lunch and admission to the flower show. Our bus will depart from the ice skating rink on Victory Boulevard, by Clove Lakes Park, at 8:30 a.m. and return at approximately 5:00 p.m. Lunch will be at the fabulous Maggiano's Little Italy Restaurant in Philadelphia. RSVP by February 15, 2010 or call 718-442-1608 for more information.
