Gamut Theatre Group's Popcorn Hat Players will present The Jungle Book written by former Core Company Member and current Resident Playwright, Sean Adams.  Performances will be Saturday, April 14 at 2:30 and 7:30 at Whitaker Center's Sunoco Theatre in Downtown Harrisburg.

The much-beloved tale has been adapted into a 90-minute play to be performed by students, ages 5 through 18.

Deep in the jungles of India, an infant “man-cub” is adopted by a pack of wolves and raised as their own.  The wolves name him Mowgli, and he grows under the watchful eyes of Bagheera the panther and Baloo the sloth bear, who must train him in the Laws of the Jungle.  But not even their strict guidance can protect Mowgli from riotous monkeys, the vicious man-eating tiger Shere Khan, and the most fearsome animal of all – man.  This must-beloved classic by Rudyard Kipling shows us the importance of family, respect for nature, and what it means to be a man.

Directed by Melissa Nicholson, The Jungle Book is the second full-length production by the Popcorn Hat Players Children's Theatre to feature children as actors.  The cast is composed of both former and current students of the Gamut Theatre's Theatre School program, as well as newcomers to the Gamut Theatre.  The performance will feature singing, dancing, staged combat, and the spirited humor that the Popcorn Hat Players are known for. The cast of The Jungle Book will learn the ins and outs of a full theatrical production as they display their own incredible talent.

Scenery will be designed by Ian Potter with painting by Jud "Pop" Nicholson; sound design by Mike Banks; costume design by Linda Hammond; lighting design by Karen Gasser; fight choreography by Dan Burke; and props coordination by Amy Burke.

Gamut Theatre Group is led by Artistic Director Clark Nicholson and Executive Director Melissa Nicholson.

The Jungle Book will be presented at The Sunoco Performance Theatre in the Whitaker Center on Saturday, April 14 at 2:30pm and 7:30pm.  All tickets are $15.  Groups of 10 students or more are $10/ticket.
