Emmet Cahill, Irish Tenor And Star Of Celtic Thunder Comes to UDPAC, 3/16

Widely regarded as one of Ireland's most exciting young performers, star of PBS's Celtic Thunder, and multi award-winning Irish tenor Emmet Cahill will perform at the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center on March 16 at 7:30 pm, part of a nationwide tour of the United States. Cahill's show will include a mix of Irish classics ("Danny Boy," "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling," "Cavan Girl"), Broadway and movie hits ("Bring Him Home," "Some Enchanted Evening," "Edelweiss") as well as love songs and contemporary tunes.

Cahill has appeared on many radio and TV shows and performed at distinguished venues, most notably by special invitation for the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. and at Carnegie Hall, New York City, where he performed to a sold-out audience.

Cahill recently signed a solo recording contract with Sony Music USA and his album, "Emmet Cahill's Ireland," soared to number one on Billboard magazine's World Music charts in both the United States and in Australia. The album is comprised of Irish classics and folk tunes from the countryside, with Cahill accompanied by the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland.

"When I'm performing a show, I like to perform songs that have humanity to them, that tell a story," said Cahill during a Good Day Sacramento interview. "People want to feel connected to what I'm doing. They want to go away feeling that they've had an experience themselves. We love to get people singing along. It's an Irish party when you come to see one of my shows!"

The Irish Music Association (IMA) named Cahill "Tenor of the Year" for his work on stage in the United States. In Ireland, Cahill has performed numerous concerts at the National Concert Hall (NCH) and The Gaeity Theater in Dublin. He played a lead role in "The Bloody Irish!" a 1916 Easter Rising musical drama that aired on PBS.

Cahill hails from Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland. At age five he began learning piano and his vocal training began at age seven. In high school he received a five year "Schola Cantorum" music scholarship. At 18 he began his formal training when he attended the Royal Irish Academy of Music where he received a BA in Music Performance.

In 2010 Emmet was awarded the 'John McCormack Bursary' for most promising young tenor and named "Most Promising Young Singer" at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. In addition, he is a multiple prizewinner at the National Feis Ceoil singing competition in Ireland. He was chosen to perform at a special concert for the president of Ireland in 2009.
