Celebrate St. Patrick's Day At The Annenberg Center, 3/17

Ireland's leading musical export, Téada, returns to Philadelphia after a nine-year hiatus to make their Annenberg Center debut on St. Patrick's Day, Saturday, March 17, at 8:00 PM. Hailed for their "fierce familiarity with the old ways" (Irish Music Magazine), the group revels in the timeless, expressive force of traditional tunes passed down through generations of musicians. The St. Patrick's Day celebration will also include a free lobby performance by the University of Pennsylvania's Tír na nÓg Irish Dance Troupe and Irish beer specials at the lobby bar. Téada (pronounced TAY-da, meaning "strings" in Gaelic) was founded and is led by County Sligo fiddler Oisin Mac Diarmada (Oh-sheen Mac DER-muddah) and includes original members flutist Damien Stenson, uilleann piper Sean Gavin, guitarist Sean McElwain, and bodhrán (Irish drum) player Tristan Rosentock. For the Annenberg Center St. Patrick's Day performance, the group expands to include champion step-dancer Samantha Harvey and legendary singer and musician Séamus Begley. The Annenberg Center's 2017-18 Season

The Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts' 2017-18 season, the first under the leadership of Executive and Artistic Director Christopher A. Gruits, features a return to a full dance series of six dance ensembles; premiere theatrical productions; musical artists from diverse genres including jazz, world music, classical and hip-hop; a three-week Cuba Festival, and family and holiday programming. Four world premieres and nine Philadelphia premieres will take place on the Annenberg Center's stages and six artists or companies will make their Philadelphia debuts. The Annenberg Center launched its inaugural artist residency with renowned choreographer Mark Morris and a new residency partnership with The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia.
