Camp Media Theatre is gearing up for summer 2012 with five two-week sessions focusing on acting, vocal music, and choreography. The music theatre camp begins today, June 18.
“Camp Media Theatre is an extraordinary and exciting opportunity for young actors to study,” said Artistic Director
Jesse Cline. “With daily classes in the three aspects of music theatre, campers study in a fun environment with professional directors, performers, and technicians. It’s a two-week day camp that is a rewarding experience.”
Camp Media Theatre does not utilize scripted scenes that have been performed previously. “The campers write and perform their own theatre piece,” Cline said. “The acting scenes are created through improvisational exercises in the acting class, and the show includes Broadway songs and choreographed movement as well. It adds up to an enriching summer program for the youth, and a very entertaining performance for family and friends at the end of each two-week session.”
Each camp is designed for ages 5 and up, in three separate age groups (ages are split according to the demographics of each session). The 2012 Camp Media Theatre Themes are “Disney” June 18-29 (songs from Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King), “Dance” July 2-July 13 (songs from Grease and Movin’ Out), “Jukebox” July 16-27 (numbers from Mamma Mia, Jersey Boys), “Family” July 30-August 10 (songs from Annie, The Sound of Music) , and “Rock-It!” August 13-24 (musical numbers from Rent, Rock of Ages,Tommy).
The 2012 Teen Camp will perform
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s classic musical
Jesus Christ Superstar in its entirety. The 7-week camp includes three weeks of rehearsal and four weekends of performance. Only 30 spots are available for the fully produced musical, in which campers work with Media Theatre’s designers and directors, including Resident Music Director Tom Fosnocht. There are 16 performances of Jesus Christ Superstar for the general public July 13-August 5.
