CSz Philadelphia, the Home of ComedySportz presents MATT&. Celebrating its 10-year anniversary, Matt& is an improv comedy show where Matt Holmes performs with a random stranger plucked from the audience. Called a "must-see" and a "best worst nightmare come true," nothing is planned, it's all made up live as you're watching it, and every performance is unique. Matt& runs Sundays in March @ 7PM. Tickets are $10.
"My partner is almost always someone who has never even seen improv before, let alone tried to do it." says Matt Holmes. "I tell them three things: they can do and say whatever they want, it's my job to make it work, and everyone wants them to succeed."
"If you're used to improv shows, this one might feel a little different" says CSz Philadelphia Executive Director, Don Montrey, "Not only because of the audience member's starring role, but also because it incorporates improvised musical accompaniment, improvised lighting and improvised sound effects. At CSz Philadelphia, we like to combine the spontaneity of improv with the technical planning of a theater production; Matt has done the same thing here giving the show a more theatrical and cinematic feel."
Tickets for Matt& are $10 and can be purchased online at csztix.com or by calling 484-450-8089. The show is designed for audiences ages 15 and up.
Matt Holmes has been improvising since 1998 and is originally from Mountain Top, PA (the Poconos). At Cabrini College, he ran On the Spot, a weekly short-form show that appeared at Skidmore College's National College Comedy Festival.
He co-founded Rare Bird Show in 2003 with Alexis Simpson and Nathan Edmonson which was called "arguably the best" by the A.V. Club. He has performed improv all over the country including Philly Improv Theater, Chicago Improv Festival, UCB Theatre's Del Close Marathon, Baltimore Improv Festival, Bethlehem's Steelstacks Improv Comedy Festival, and Pittsburgh's Arcade Comedy Theatre. mattandimprov.comCSz Philadelphia uses improvisation to produce fun, immersive experiences that bring laughter to the people of Philadelphia. In the classroom we teach our students how to use improv to entertain and excite audiences. In the boardroom, we teach professionals how to communicate, listen, and take risks using Applied Improvisation. On stage we entertain everyone with hilarious improv comedy shows including ComedySportz, Philadelphia's longest-running comedy show, where two teams of improvisers battle for the laughs of the Loyal Fans. www.comedysportzphilly.com
