Bright Light Theatre Company's The 5th Floor will run for the first weekend of the SoLow Festival, opening tonight, June 15th at The Foremost Building, 525 South 4th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147. The story unfolds as you travel floor to floor; secrets are revealed as the doors open and close. The 5th Floor explores personal intimacy and public boundaries through interrupted events and snippets of half-revealed truths to create a fluid blend of solo and ensemble performance. Only 5 audience members at a time are led through a strangely familiar, yet twisted reality as criminals dash into stairwells, lovers are discovered, and a power-hungry lawyer receives an unexpected visitor. As Bright Light's 5 creator-performers escape down hallways and emerge from dark corners, you become part of the action itself!

Bright Light is dedicated to experimentation in theatrical medium, process, and production in ensemble-based collaboration. We produce multidisciplinary performances through a collision of narrative storytelling, stylized movement, and progressive design. By utilizing the wealth of non-traditional venues that Philadelphia has to offer, we create socially and environmentally aware theatre.

BLTC has produced full-length, original performances across Philadelphia in locations such as a self-renovated lot in Fishtown, the grounds of the Horticultural Center, Power Plant Productions, Broad Street Ministry, RUBA Club, <fidget>space and Underground Arts at the Wolf Building. BLTC was founded in 2010 by Samantha Tower, Allison Caw, and Julian Karlen. Tower and Karlen currently function as Producing Directors.

SOLOW FESTIVAL is an inexpensive artistic event dedicated to presenting new and experimental work in a collective manner. Now in its third year, SOLOW was developed from the inspirations of local performing artists Thomas Choinacky and Amanda Grove. Bringing together over a dozen performing artists from June 14th to 24th, SOLOW focuses on the artistic creation and growth of solo artists with conceiving new work with low or no-cost risk. The productions will be presented at a variety of non-traditional venues throughout the city. "The festival offers the opportunity for performance to be affordable for both artists and audiences, lifting the constraint and risk of financial responsibility and giving artists the freedom to experiment, explore, and take bigger risks," says curator Thomas Choinacky.

Performances are tonight, June 15th from 7pm-9pm, Saturday June 16th from 8pm-10pm, and Sunday June 17th from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm. The performance loops 6 times over the 2 hour block, running every 20 minutes. Elevator accommodates only 5 audience members per run. Tickets: Pay What You Can at the door. Location: The Foremost Building, 525 South 4th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147. (Just North of 4th and South Street.)

Original concept created by Julian Karlen. All material generated by the ensemble in collaboration with Bright Light Theatre. Samantha Tower - Director. Julian Karlen - Production & Dramaturgy.
